I recently had the exciting opportunity to go on safari in Tanzania, hosted by one of our preferred travel suppliers, Alexander & Roberts. Getting there and back is a safari in itself but well worth it to experience the beauty of Tanzania. The people, the animals, and the “endless plains” are sure to get into your heart. 

I began my safari at a private wildlife estate near Arusha.  Over the next 9 nights, we made our way north as far as the Kenya border and the famous Mara River. I stayed in a combination of permanent and mobile tented camps. These were very different experiences and it was great to be able to experience both.  During one night, we had lions IN CAMP while staying in a mobile tented camp.  This was very exciting and an unforgettable part of our trip!

We traveled through the Great Rift Valley, making our way to Lake Manyara, hailed by Hemingway as one of the loveliest in Africa. It is home to giraffe, zebra, gazelle, and more than 350 bird species.

The next day, we journeyed to Ngorongoro Crater, descending down to the crater floor for a safari drive. The game-viewing there was excellent with healthy populations of lion, cheetah, elephant, hippo, zebra, hyena and rhino.  We traveled in an open top and open sided vehicle, which allowed for unobstructed views of the animals.

This was my 3^rd trip to Africa.  The thrill of being in such close proximity to the magnificent wild animals, from wart hog to elephant to big cats, never gets old!  Tanzania is perfect for your 1^st safari adventure or for a return trip to the continent.
