An UnCruise Adventure

My sister and I joined an UnCruise Adventure of the Pacific Northwest in May 2016. We sailed out of Seattle for a week in the Gulf and San Juan Islands. Our home was a 22 passenger yacht, the Safari Quest. Going in, I was a bit nervous that Safari Quest would be too small. No need! She was spacious and very comfortable. She is perfect for a family or group of friends! Her crew of 10 did a magnificent job of looking after us. Within days, a warm camaraderie was established between guests and crew. Our captain even joined us in the ‘polar’ plunge (water temp 54°F) at the end of the week. Fellow guests were a diverse and interesting group.

Our soft adventure consisted of easy hiking, 2-man kayaking and exploration by zodiac. We also spent quite a bit of time relaxing on the top deck with binoculars, searching for whales. We did see Orca twice during the week, which was really thrilling! We spotted several bald eagles as well, which always left me with a lump in my throat. At night, we either dropped anchor in a protected bay or were docked at a small marina. The night sky was especially beautiful and full of bright stars. Our two ports of call were Salt Springs Island in Canada and San Juan Island in US waters. Both were charming and satisfied our desire to shop! We also visited winery, a cheese maker and a wonderful alpaca farm. The scenery in the Pacific Northwest is absolutely stunning. Narrow fjords with thousand- foot sheer walls and open waters, framed with picturesque mountain backgrounds. It’s truly a special place on this earth. GO NOW OR SOON!!!
