Cooling Off In Cabo

Cabo San Lucas has been on my “wish list” for some time. I recently had the opportunity to visit the area and I sure wasn’t disappointed. Although my trip was a short one — just four nights — it was memorable and definitely made an impression. I stayed at the Grand Velas Resort, which is a lovely all-inclusive property and part of our Virtuoso luxury portfolio.  All of the rooms there face the resort’s three pools and the ocean. The views are absolutely spectacular. The rooms are quite large, as are the bathrooms and balcony. The latter was big enough to accommodate a double lounge chair, a table and two chairs. One of my favorite room amenities was the “snack drawer” which offered a wonderful array of munchies.

The food at Grand Velas is definitely not your typical all-inclusive fare. It is upscale and gourmet. All of the meals I had there were wonderful, but my favorite by far was the Cucina de Autor which featured a chef’s tasting menu. Everything we tried was delicious!

While at the resort, I took advantage of the spa, which was beautiful and offered practically every treatment option one can imagine. It was so relaxing and rejuvenating!

Most of the beaches in Cabo are non-swimmable because of the strong currents, but I didn’t really feel like this was a deterrent to my stay in any way. We took a boat ride out to the famous arch where the water is calmer. There were lots of people in kayaks and other water toys. I even tried my hand at paddle boarding which I am happy to report was successful and great fun!

Cabo is becoming an increasingly popular choice for a Mexican vacation and it is growing rapidly. In fact, 19 new hotels are in various phases of construction and planning. I highly recommend the destination. It’s just beautiful!
